Hard drive failure (and recovery)

Anyone who has been using computers for more than a few years is all too familiar with the sinking feeling you get when you realize that you have inadvertantly formatted the wrong hard drive.  I myself did this not long ago (Extrnal drive users beware!!) by accidentally deleting the partition table of my primary storage drive (an external USB HD).  I thought all was lost.  I have experimented with dozens of pieces of freeware and shareware to try and recover the data on an accidentally erased drive and have never had any success – until now!

Testdisk available here is a small but powerful partition recovery tool that I found not only easy to use – but extremely effective.  It is available for Windows (DOS – Vista), Linux (i386, Kernels 2.x4 and 2.6x SRPM), Mac OSX and OS2.

All my photos, music, applications etc… were recovered in the same directory structure that they were in before I brain farted them out of existence.

If you have the need to use this too – please donate to the authors.

For those about to ROCK…

Brian Johnson

Thanks to my buddy EJ (Music editor for the News Tribune), I was able to check out AC/DC in their first Tacoma appearance in 7 years.  Promoting their newest release “Black Ice”.

The show was everything you would expect, and I was fortunate to have a real birds eye view of the event.  I got to sit in the press box for the whole show.  The tickets they gave us were in the eighth row – but the way the stage was set up – I was better off in the box.  They played all of the songs I went to hear and kept the new songs (ie songs I didn’t know) to a minimum.  Opening act “The Answer” just plain old sucked. They looked like a parody of a rock band with cliche moves and manufactured excitement as well as the worst sound I have ever heard at a concert.

Here is the set list (Courtesy of EJ – he also gets credit for the picture…sadly I couldn’t go to the photo pit with him)

Rock N’ Roll Train
Hell Ain’t a Bad Place to Be
Back in Black
Big Jack
Dirt Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
Black Ice
The Jack
Hell’s Bells
Shoot to Thrill
War Machine
Anything Goes
You Shook Me All Night Long
Whole Lotta Rosie
Let There Be Rock

Highway to Hell
For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)
